These three actions all start in Shopify Admin, not in Trexity. You reassign, split, or merge the order’s fulfilment the normal Shopify way, and Trexity reacts automatically — it re-checks coverage, updates or re-creates the affected deliveries, and shows the result in the Trexity panel on the order page.
There’s one Trexity-only action that people sometimes call “merging” — combining several different orders onto one courier route. That’s Batch selected on the dashboard, and it’s covered at the end of this article.
Changing the pickup (fulfilment) location
The pickup location is the store location a delivery is picked up from. To change it, move the fulfilment to a different location in Shopify — Trexity has no separate “change location” button.
- Open the order in Shopify Admin.
- Use Shopify’s fulfilment controls to reassign the order (or the specific items) to another store location.
- Wait a few seconds. The Trexity panel refreshes on its own and shows the new pickup location.
What happens depends on how far along the delivery is
| Delivery state | What Trexity does |
|---|---|
| Draft / on hold | Updates the pickup location in place. |
| Scheduled, no driver yet | Cancels the old delivery and creates a new one at the new location. |
| Driver assigned / out for delivery | Blocked. The move is too late to apply automatically. |
If the move is blocked because a courier is already committed, cancel the delivery from the Trexity panel and create a fresh one from the new location.
The new location has to be Trexity-ready
For a move to succeed, the destination location must be:
- Linked and enabled for Trexity (see Setting up your locations).
- In a Trexity service area for that delivery address.
- Not paused (see Pausing a location).
If it isn’t, the delivery stays at the old pickup or goes on hold, and the Trexity panel shows a banner explaining what to fix. Common ones:
- “New pickup location not linked to Trexity” — the delivery stays put. Link the location in the Trexity app, then move the fulfilment again.
- “Location move on hold” — the new pickup can’t serve this delivery address. Either move the fulfilment back, or use a location that covers the address.
- “Location move needs manual fix” — there’s already a Trexity delivery for this order at the destination. Sort it out from the order panel.
Shopify order tags mirror these issues (for example
Trexity Issue: New pickup location not linked to Trexity) so you
can spot them from the orders list.
Splitting an order
Splitting means breaking one Shopify order into more than one fulfilment — for example sending some items from one location and the rest from another. Trexity creates one delivery per active fulfilment.
This happens two ways:
- Automatically, when Shopify assigns items to different locations at checkout. Each location gets its own delivery, with that location’s own batch/JIT mode and timing.
- Manually, when you use Shopify’s Split fulfilment action on the order page.
After a split, the Trexity panel shows multiple delivery cards — one per fulfilment. Expand each card (they’re grouped by pickup location) to print labels, schedule, or cancel that piece on its own. On the dashboard, each piece is its own row.
Every new piece has to pass the normal delivery checks — linked location, in-zone address, location not paused. If one can’t be created, you’ll see a “Location split failed” banner telling you what to fix; correct it and re-split the order in Shopify.
Not the same thing: if a single delivery is over Trexity’s per-package weight limit, the panel suggests splitting it into several packages (extra labels) — that’s one delivery with more than one label, not a fulfilment split. See Printing labels.
Merging orders
Merging combines multiple fulfilments on the same Shopify order back into one, using Shopify’s Merge fulfilments action. Trexity cancels the now-obsolete deliveries and converges on a single delivery for the surviving fulfilment.
- On the order in Shopify Admin, use Merge fulfilments.
- Trexity re-checks the merged fulfilment and cancels the extra deliveries.
- The Trexity panel settles down to one delivery card.
The surviving location still has to be Trexity-ready. If the merged delivery can’t be created, you’ll see a “Location merge failed” banner — fix the location or settings, then re-merge in Shopify.
Combining several different orders into one route
Merging fulfilments (above) only works within a single Shopify order. To put several separate orders onto one optimised courier route, use Batch selected on the Trexity dashboard. This is available when you’re using manual scheduling.
- Go to App → Dashboard.
- Select the orders you want to combine (they must share the same pickup location).
- Click Batch selected and confirm.
Trexity optimises them into a single route. Tracking and labels stay per order, and you can Unbatch later from the row action.
A few rules:
- All selected orders must be from one location.
- You need at least the minimum number of orders to batch (usually two).
- Next-day deliveries can’t be batched.
For the full manual-scheduling workflow, see Manual scheduling. For how batching differs from automatic pickup runs, see Batch vs Just-in-time.
Common questions
“Do I change the location inside the Trexity app?” No. Do it in Shopify (reassign the fulfilment). Trexity follows the change. The Trexity app is where you link and enable locations, not where you move an individual order.
“I split an order and only see one delivery.” Give it a few seconds and refresh the order. If one piece never appears, check the panel for a “Location split failed” banner — one of the split locations probably isn’t Trexity-ready.
“Is ‘Batch selected’ the same as Shopify’s Merge fulfilments?” No. Merge fulfilments combines pieces within one order. Batch selected combines different orders onto one route. They solve different problems.
